Rand Paul: "I've been waiting for 20 years to talk about how bad these toilets are."
(HT: Cubachi)

This is the best thing I've heard out of a senator in a long time.  Rand Paul, in an Energy Committee hearing "dumps" on low-flow toilets and crappy light bulbs and the people who force them on us. He says they're pro-choice when it comes to abortion, but hypocritically anti-choice on everything else:

“You’re really anti-choice on every other consumer item that you’ve listed here, including light bulbs, refrigerators, toilets – you name it, you can’t go around your house without being told what to buy. You restrict my choices, you don’t care about my choices. You don’t care about the consumer frankly. You raise the cost of all the items with your rules, all your notions that you know what’s best for me.”
Frankly, my toilets don’t work in my house. And I blame you and people like you who want to tell me what I can install in my house, what I can do. You restrict my choices. There is hypocrisy that goes on when people claim to believe in some choices but don’t want to let the consumer decide what they can buy and put in their houses. I find it insulting. I find it insulting that a lot of these products that you’re going to make us buy and you won’t let us buy what we want to buy and you take away our choices."

Gas prices expected to rise today - Newsnet5.com

"CLEVELAND - A gas price-tracking website said Ohio should expect another increase in fuel prices on Thursday.
According to gasbuddy.com , the price of a gallon of gasoline is going to increase to $3.59 to $3.65 a gallon in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky. This may mean a jump of 35 cents in some places compared to earlier in the week."

"The Strategic Petroleum Reserve was intended, first and foremost, to be a national security instrument in times of crisis. It is not a political tool to help hide bad energy policy.  Now is not the time to tap it. Now is the time for the Obama administration to allow the United States to reach its domestic energy supply while lowering prices, creating jobs and reducing the need for foreign imports."
Here's what Heritage says should be done:

"As the only country in the world that places a majority of its territorial waters off-limits to oil and gas exploration, the U.S. should at the very least be drilling in the areas where it does have access. Removing the de facto moratorium on drilling would immediately increase supply and obviate the need to tap the SPR. A market-based energy policy that opens supply and prudently balances economics with environmental benefit would lower prices, create jobs, and reduce the need for foreign oil imports."
Bravery and common sense prevail in Wisconsin
Heritage Foundation

"The courage of the Wisconsin Senate conservatives cannot be understated. Before the vote, lawmakers were threatened with death and physical violence. After the vote, thousands of protesters stormed into the capitol building, ignoring announcements from police that the building was closed. Once inside, and at great risk to the public welfare, activists handcuffed some doors to the capitol shut. When security escorted the Senators to another building, a Democrat tipped off the mob, which then surrounded their cars and tried to break their windows as Senators returned home."
Heritage notes that the Wisconsin legislators went to great lengths to make sure they were abiding by the state laws:

"After securing approval from three widely respected nonpartisan agencies—the Legislative Fiscal Bureau, the Legislative Council, and the Legislative Reference Bureau—Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald removed the appropriations measures from Walker’s budget, thus eliminating the need for any of the 14 truant Democratic Senators to be present for the vote."
Legislators receive death threats - 620 WTMJ
The Justice Department has confirmed that the following death threat was e-mailed to Republican Wisconsin senators Wednesday night.  It's that new "tone" and civility the Democrats have been lecturing the Tea Party about. The following is the unedited email:
"Please put your things in order because you will be killed and your famileswill also be killed due to your actions in the last 8 weeks. Please explainto them that this is because if we get rid of you and your families then itwill save the rights of 300,000 people and also be able to close the deficitthat you have created. I hope you have a good time in hell. Read below formore information on possible scenarios in which you will die.
WE want to make this perfectly clear. Because of your actions today and inthe past couple of weeks I and the group of people that are working with mehave decided that we've had enough. We feel that you and the people thatsupport the dictator have to die. We have tried many other ways of dealingwith your corruption but you have taken things too far and we will not standfor it any longer. So, this is how it's going to happen: I as well as manyothers know where you and your family live, it's a matter of public records. We have all planned to assult you by arriving at your house and putting anice little bullet in your head. However, we decided that we wouldn't leaveit there. We also have decided that this may not be enough to send themessage to you since you are so "high" on Koch and have decided that you arenow going to single handedly make this a dictatorship instead of ademorcratic process. So we have also built several bombs that we have placedin various locations around the areas in which we know that you frequent. This includes, your house, your car, the state capitol, and well I won'ttell you all of them because that's just no fun. Since we know that you arenot smart enough to figure out why this is happening to you we have decidedto make it perfectly clear to you. If you and your goonies feel that it'snecessary to strip the rights of 300,000 people and ruin their lives, makingthem unable to feed, clothe, and provide the necessities to their familiesand themselves then We Will "get rid of" (in which I mean kill) you. Pleaseunderstand that this does not include the heroic Rep. Senator that riskedeverything to go aganist what you and your goonies wanted him to do. We feelthat it's worth our lives to do this, because we would be saving the livesof 300,000 people. Please make your peace with God as soon as possible andsay goodbye to your loved ones we will not wait any longer. YOU WILL DIE!!!!
Heritage Foundation has produced a two minute video called Government Collective Bargaining 101.  It's worth a couple minutes to gain a better understanding of this imporant issue:

And now for some desperately needed (slightly) less important fare:

MLB Trade Rumors (HT: Challies)

2010 Alex Rodriguez- $32MM
2000 Kevin Brown - $15.714MM
1990 Robin Yount - $3.2MM
"The top ten salaries in the game have nearly doubled over the last ten years, and they've increased ten-fold over the last 20 years. Albert Pujols could very well land the first contract with a $30MM average annual value next winter; how long will it be before we see a $40MM a year player, maybe ten years? Based on the recent inflation, it could be sooner."
