Michelle Malkin says, "Hey Eric Holder: Meet My People!"

Malkin is referring to Attorney General Holder's remarks at a House subcommittee meeting about the case of voter intimidation by members of the Black Panthers (read the whole thing to see who Michelle Malkin's "people" are).  Holder said,
“When you compare what people endured in the South in the ‘60s to try to get the right to vote for African-Americans, to compare what people subjected to that with what happened in Philadelphia … to describe it in those terms I think does a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line for my people. [emphasis mine]
This perpetual victim-card is not helpful.  Until we stop making it about "us" and "them" we will never get beyond this country's racial divide.  Mr. Holder doesn't seem to recognize that for many, many of us - millions of us - skin color is a non-issue. We don't think of this country as divided between white Americans, black Americans, African Americans, and Alien-Americans (nod to Dennis Kucinich); there are simply, Americans.  We wish you would stop reminding everyone that you have a different skin color and that we should think about it constantly, every time we look at you.  We are all members of the same race - the HUMAN race. Please join us and stop dividing people by skin color.

And while we're on the subject, Ed Schultz and Al Sharpton think that school voucher programs are racist because, "poor kids won't go to private schools." Who's the racist here? You be the judge:

For a more reasoned and sane approach to school vouchers see Juan Williams and others defending the D.C. Scholarship program.  Most of these people are avowed liberals, but they care about disadvantaged children and think maybe there's a better way than keeping them in failing schools:

Yesterday I posted something about the Strategic Oil Reserves.  A blog commenter asked a question about it, which made me realize I knew almost nothing about this!  Here's what I learned today:

DOE - Fossil Energy: The Nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve
"The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), filled to capacity at 727 million barrels, is the world's largest supply of emergency crude oil. The federally-owned oil stocks are stored in huge underground salt caverns along the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico.
Decisions to withdraw crude oil from the SPR are made by the President under the authorities of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act.  In the event of an energy emergency, SPR oil would be distributed by competitive sale.  The SPR has been used under these circumstances only twice (during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and after Hurricane Katrina in 2005).  Its formidable size (700-plus million barrels) makes it a significant deterrent to oil import cutoffs and a key tool of foreign policy"

So now we know! It's important to note that the petroleum reserves are only to be used in the event of an emergency that disrupts the nation's oil supply.  It's not (by law) to be used merely as a price-control measure.  And in case anyone wants to see the "official chart" from the Department of Energy...

Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) Meets Hitler | RedState

“As a nation, I look back in history and some of the worst governments we’ve ever had, you know one of the the first thing they did? They went after the trade unions,” he said. “Hitler didn’t want unions, Stalin didn’t want unions. [Former Egyptian President Hosni] Mubarak didn’t want independent unions.”

Erick Erickson noted that Hitler was actually a fan of unions, quoting him in Mein Kampf:

"As things stand today, the trade unions in my opinion cannot be dispensed with. On the contrary, they are among the most important institutions of the nation’s economic life. Their significance lies not only in the social and political field, but even more in the general field of national politics. A people whose broad masses, through a sound trade-union movement, obtain the satisfaction of their living requirements and at the same time an education, will be tremendously strengthened in its power of resistance in the struggle for existence. Above all, the trade unions are necessary as foundation stones of the future economic parliament or chambers of estates. "

Sherrod Brown got it wrong.

And last, but not least, a wonderful video about the Kimyal people receiving the first Bibles in their own language.  It's a little long, but it's worth 9 minutes of your life to see the rejoicing and celebration that ensued when the plane arrived with God's word!

It doesn't matter what Hitler thought of unions no more than what Hitler thought of jazz music or public libraries. Just because Nazi Germany had unions doesn't mean they're a good or bad thing. I wish everyone would get over this whole Nazi obsession.

Here's what someone wrote over at the Red State blog:

"False analogies such as Brown’s are one of the cornerstones of what passes for arguments on the Left:

I have a girlfriend
Hitler had a girlfriend
I am therefore like Hitler in all other respects

As in the example, such arguments also typically take a Godwinian turn.

Even if what he said had historical merit it would still be wrong, wrong, wrong.

You make a good point. That said, you can't escape the fact that Hitler was in favor of many things the Left in this country support: unions, universal healthcare, gun control, forced public education, minimum wage, progressive tax, and the squelching of religion. It's not a good trajectory.
